American Sniper is a 2014 American biographical war film directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Jason Hall. The film stars Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, based on the autobiography of the same name. It tells the story of Kyle's four-year enlistment in the United States Navy SEALs from 1999 to 2003 where he became one of the deadliest snipers in U.S. military history, with 160 confirmed kills during his service. After his father refuses to help support his family, Kyle is forced to move into a small apartment with his wife and children. He later reconciles with Taya, but their relationship suffers when Kyle is denied employment due to his inability to hold a steady job. Kyle begins to drink heavily, becoming emotionally unstable when he is denied a job after re-entering the workforce. While drunk at a bar, he meets Zac "Zack" Kyle (Jared Leto), who confides in him that his father is receiving money in return for killing people. Kyle continues fighting with PTSD and alcoholism, becoming increasingly aggressive toward Taya.
