The film stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles. The story of the film revolves around four women - Rumi (Sen), Kiran (Pathak Shah), Leela Chamchawala (Kumra), and Nisha Tailor (Borthakur). The film is based on the lives of four women in their day-to-day struggles at home, with husbands who are against them taking up jobs. Rumi is married with two daughters. She works at a hotel in Kolkata where her husband Rajan runs a trucking company. While he is often away, she is secretly in love with someone at work named Mayank. Kiran is married to Gulshan Kumar, who also happens to be an antagonist of the film along with Rumi's husband Rajan. Kiran's life takes a turn for the worse when Gulshan organises an attack on her that turns her into a social outcast for months until she recovers completely from the attack. Leela is a single mother who doesn't desire to be tied down by a man in her life. Recently separated from her ex-husband, she hopes to take charge of herself and her future while entering into a new lease of life. Nisha is a widow who works as a tailor for a living. She dreams of setting up a shop somewhere outside the city, where she will be able to have more freedom in her life and not have to rely on people's judgmental stares for her choice of livelihood. The women meet at a wedding and become friends with each other. The four women bond with each other and compare their respective problems with one another. Rumi is hesitant in spending time with the three, as she feels insecure about sharing her secret affair with Mayank, however later on, they begin to spend more and more time together. They watch a film and go out for shopping where they get all dolled up in make-up and fashionable clothes. They smile at each other when they look in the mirror - clearly getting a kick out of looking good after years of hiding their true selves. Rajan discovers that Rumi is having an affair when checking her phone history, thinking she was chatting to one of her daughters. Rumi gets angry and confronts him while neglecting her children. A fight ensues, which is interrupted by a call from her lover Mayank asking to meet. Rajan realises that Rumi was having an affair and separates from her. Kiran's husband gets into an argument with his family on the night of their daughter's engagement. In a fit of rage from being humiliated by his family, he sleeps with another woman the same night and contracts a disease from her. He is forced to leave his family alone without any support when he falls ill with tuberculosis (TB).
