Kamal Haasan’s film “Thoongaa Vanam” will release on February 14th in Chennai. He picked this film because he wanted to tell the stories of soldiers who served in the Sri Lankan armed forces, but are on the other side of that island nation's civil war. The movie title translates to "The Elephant Vanishes" and it tells a story about what happens when an elephant wanders into a military camp on wartime Sri Lanka. “Thoongaa Vanam” is financed by Solaimalai Arooran, executive producer of “Soodhu Kavvum” among other films. The film is produced by actor Kalairani. Aravi Sami has written the script. As for his director, Kamal has picked Billa fame Gnanavel Raja. They are currently in pre-production with the film set to go on floors in January. Kalairani says that in this war, both sides have committed atrocities and neither side is blameless. He adds that his film will attempt to tell the stories of both the Sri Lankan and Indian soldiers in this war and what happened to them in the battlefield. Shooting is scheduled to begin in March and will take place mostly in India. S.P. Thaman composed "Thoongaa Vanam". He has been approached by Gnanavel Raja to score for his directorial debut "Thoongaa Vanam". The song sung by Vairamuthu is based on a folk song from Jaffna titled "Kai!" The song was composed by Thaman at a music workshop arranged by Gnanavel Raja after being impressed with his film script. Kamal Haasan is collaborating with playback singers Haricharan, who sang for "Vishwaroopam", and Shreya Ghoshal. They will be singing a duet in "Thoongaa Vanam" which marks the Tamil debut of Shreya Ghoshal. The music director of this film is Thaman. Recently Kamal Haasan has revealed that he has completed filming a short film called “Majunu”, which will release on 9 May 2017. He told reporters that the short film would be released on YouTube before its television premiere. He later clarified that it will not be a short film but a feature. Kamal Haasan will play a double role in the film. He stated that the film will be a thriller with a message, and is set to release in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
